Jan Dhan Yojana: Uttar Pradesh has set a new record under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY). Uttar Pradesh has reached the first position in the country in terms of opening Jan Dhan accounts. More than 99.3 million Jan Dhan accounts have been opened in the state so far, accounting for 17.66 percent of the 562.1 million accounts opened nationwide. This achievement makes the state a leader in financial inclusion and demonstrates the robust reach of banking services in both rural and urban areas.
Example of Financial Inclusion in Rural and Urban Areas

The joint efforts of the Uttar Pradesh government and banks have extended banking services to every village. By the end of the financial year 2025, a total of ₹53,340 crore has been deposited in Jan Dhan accounts in the state. The average deposit per account is ₹5,804, significantly higher than the national average of ₹4,723. This not only shows an increase in the number of accounts, but also proves that the financial situation of account holders in Uttar Pradesh has improved.
Jan Dhan Yojana: A large platform for a scheme tailored for women
Women, in particular, have seen the highest participation in this scheme. Of the total accounts opened in the state, 5.28 crore Jan Dhan accounts are in the name of women. This scheme has become a major vehicle for women’s empowerment. Women are now becoming more financially empowered through savings and transactions, and this has also given them a new identity in society and family.
Aadhaar Linkage and Strengthening of Digital Financial Services
To promote financial transparency, 93.03 percent of Jan Dhan accounts have been linked to Aadhaar by June 2025. This is ensuring that the benefits of government schemes reach beneficiaries directly and eliminating the role of middlemen. Banking experts believe that Uttar Pradesh’s performance reflects the awareness and accessibility of digital financial services in the rural economy.
UP’s Record and the Objective of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana

This record of Uttar Pradesh is not only strengthening the state’s economic health but also realizing the core objective of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, “Everyone’s Bank, Everyone’s Account.” Direct benefit transfers, the expansion of women’s self-help groups, and the increasing presence of rural banks are key reasons for this success.
This achievement of Uttar Pradesh demonstrates that with proper planning and efforts, economic inclusion in rural and urban areas can be taken to new heights.
