The Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana (PM-DDKY), launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has a cost of approximately ₹24,000 crore. Under this scheme, the government will identify 100 underperforming agricultural districts in the country and work to develop them.
Modi’s initiatives provide a new direction to pulse production
On this occasion, Prime Minister Modi urged farmers to increase the area under pulse cultivation to 3.5 million hectares by 2030. This step is considered crucial given the growing demand for pulses in the country.
The Pulses Self-Reliance Mission, costing ₹11,440 crore, is a major step towards making the country self-sufficient in pulse production. This will provide farmers with seeds, fertilizers, and irrigation facilities for new crops, leading to direct improvements in productivity.
Emphasis on Reforms from ‘Seed to Market’
Prime Minister Modi stated that his government has implemented reforms at every level, from seed to market. As a result of these reforms, India’s agricultural exports have doubled in the last few years.
He also noted that the production of food grains, fruits, and vegetables has increased rapidly, while agricultural machinery has become more affordable for farmers due to the reduction in GST.

Prime Minister Modi stated that farmers play a crucial role in India’s commitment to becoming a developed nation by 2047. He urged farmers to increase production and meet the demands of both domestic and global markets.
