General Motors Recall Alert: If you drive a luxury electric SUV like the Chevrolet Equinox EV or Cadillac Optiq, this news is extremely important for you. General Motors, the world’s leading automobile company, has announced a recall for some 2025 and 2026 model years. The reason is a serious manufacturing defect in their tires, which could pose a road hazard.
General Motors Recall Alert: What is the real reason?

General Motors reported to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that the 21-inch Continental CrossContact tires fitted to some vehicles used a “nonconforming tread base rubber compound” during manufacturing. This problem was found in tires manufactured during the first week of October 2024 (week 6, October 2024).
These tires have the code 4024 on their sidewalls, which can be used to identify them as manufactured during that time period. The problem is that the tread of these tires can partially or completely separate, increasing the risk of losing control of the vehicle or causing an accident.
Which vehicles are affected?
The recall involves approximately 22,700 electric SUVs. The largest number of these are:
17,400 units of the 2025 model Chevrolet Equinox EV
1,832 units of the 2026 model
3,468 units of the 2025 model Cadillac Optiq
214 units of the 2026 model
According to the company, no accidents or injuries related to this issue have been reported so far, but this recall is being initiated as a precaution.
General Motors Recall Alert: Next Steps for Customers
The company will begin notifying affected vehicle owners starting December 1, 2025. Tires will be inspected at dealerships, and if found to have a defective tread compound, they will be replaced free of charge.
If you drive an Equinox EV or Optiq, you can check if your vehicle is included in this recall by entering your vehicle’s VIN number on the NHTSA’s official website.
